September 2024
Following on from a successful Women’s Month in South Africa, where a number of corporates and big businesses made efforts to highlight the significance of the occasion, we hear from two trailblazers who are leading the way in their industries, setting the path for others as real role models.
Elite Risk Acceptances is on the front cover in September, and for good reason. This highly specialist insurance offering, part of the Old Mutual Insure family, protects the wealth and assets of high-net-worth clients but in an innovative way. Established and led by an all-female team, the company is based on a deep understanding of clients and a strong relationship with brokers and advisors. It is far from a transactional approach and is about adding value to the life of clients. MD Tarina Vlok says that the company is always searching for the best trends in the insurance space, and is a real ambassador for the wealth protection space.
Similarly, Ingrid Osborne – CEO at Saryx Engineering – has developed a company that is at the forefront of the industry. She is always on the lookout for new technologies and new ideas to add to the majorly successful HSEC Online® product suite, developed by Osborne and partner Julie Mathieson in South Africa. The idea came through the company being part of the legacy challenge in health and safety compliance. Today, Saryx enjoys industry leadership status because of its ability to grow and adapt quickly, and that comes from the vision of Osborne and Mathieson.
To grow like these companies, there has to be more to a business than just a dream – it has to be more than just hard work. There needs to be a mix of industry understanding, pioneering thought, relationship building skills, and a daring nature to go beyond the comfort zone. Many think they have it. Most do not.
